5 Factors to Consider Before Purchasing Shampoo and Conditioner

Buying shampoo and conditioner can seem like a routine experience, but the truth is that there are a lot of things that go into buying these items. Sure, some people may buy the cheapest or the most colorful or the name brand option, but the truth of the matter is that shampoo and conditioner will be going on your body and on your scalp just about every day. This is why you really want to consider a number of factors before you actually purchase shampoo and conditioner.

This is especially the case before you buy a two-in-one shampoo and conditioner. Indeed, buying a bad shampoo and conditioner can not only affect your skin health, but it can also have negative consequences on the environment too. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to know whether the shampoo or conditioner you are buying is good or not. Here are five factors to consider before purchasing shampoo and conditioner.

1. Animal Testing

A lot of the products we use today are tested on animals in cruel and unusual ways. This is especially the case in the beauty industry, including cosmetic and shampoo companies. Before a product goes to market, it is often tested on mice, rats, cats and even chimpanzees. Before you purchase a shampoo and conditioner, you want to find the logo or the message that says the product wasn’t tested on animals.

2. Phthalates

When you purchase a shampoo or conditioner, you want to make sure there are no phthalates in the product. Phthalates not only cause health problems – they can also be ruinous on the environment. Basically, the phthalates can suck out necessary components from water, which creates an unlivable environment for fish. This is why you want to look on the back of the shampoo and conditioner bottle to find natural ingredients, like argan oil. Indeed, argan oil shampoo and conditioner is a great ingredient because it can encourage growth and lustrous hair.

3. Cost

Of course, you don’t want to pay too much for shampoo and conditioner, and you shouldn’t have to. The truth of the matter is that shampoo and conditioner doesn’t cost much to make, so you can find a lot of affordable options out there. Usually, the name brands are the most expensive, because a big name can slap on a price tag and people are still going to buy it. Instead of paying for a marketing campaign from a big-name brand, put your hard earned money towards products that better suit your needs.

4. Scent

On top of price, you also want to think about the scent. Ideally, you want to go with a scent that you like. This may take a little while. If you visit a specialized shop, you can go through numerous bottles of shampoo and conditioner and smell each one. Although, it may take some trial and error, eventually you’ll find a scent you enjoy.

5. Effectiveness

Also, it is critical that you read user reviews. Some shampoos have terrible reviews, mostly because they aren’t that effective. Other shampoos and conditioners, however, have great reviews for their effectiveness. In the end, it is all about doing the research.
